Dead Fish English Society is dedicated to providing Loyola University Chicago undergraduates with a safe space to connect with others over shared interests in the study of English. Whether it be a passion for reading, literary theory and framework, writing, journalism, pre-law, or other aspects of the English field, we believe each student deserves a space to develop their interests with others who are similarly inspired within the field. Within numerous in-class discussions and group conversations, many English undergraduate students have expressed the sentiment that they wish there were more opportunities to develop friendships with their peers outside of the classroom and find that it can be difficult to forge these connections on their own. DFES strives to become the bridge for peer bonding and learning through a shared passion for English studies without the pressures and social standards tied to a classroom setting.

Membership Benefits
Dead Fish English Society wishes to provide a space for students to share and discuss knowledge in the service of humanity as it relates in the field of English. Much of this will be learning more about various forms of literature and literary theory and applying this type of knowledge to their personal life or their future careers. We also plan to partner with faculty members and other similar field experts to demonstrate different career paths one can pursue in the field and ways in which studying English can help them secure successful careers in the field. Members can expect to develop close bonds with students interested in English studies, build connections with English Department faculty, and develop a new sense of appreciation for English literature and history.
