DFES strives to become the bridge for peer bonding and learning through a shared passion for English studies without the pressures and social standards tied to a classroom setting.

We are a recognized chapter of the Food Recovery Network, a national non-profit organization whose mission is “Fighting Waste. Feeding People.” We aim to recover and re-utilize uneaten food from campus sources by making it safely available to members of our local community who do not have access to a steady supply of food. Our hope is to provide high-quality food to those in need while simultaneously educating students, faculty, and administration on the importance of reducing food waste. Seeking out excited, passionate students with a commitment to sustainability, service, and bettering our community is central to our mission.

The Thaakat foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works on various
humanitarian crises around the world. This foundation directs their focus to projects involving
education and healthcare in underprivileged villages and communities, specifically in Ghana,
Pakistan, and Sierra Leone. The purpose of this chapter at our university is to work alongside this
foundation to fundraise and spread awareness of their many ongoing projects. Our primary goal
is to serve in providing the resources to these communities. Our organization will also seek to
collaborate with similar philanthropic organizations at Loyola, as well as the Thaakat chapters in
neighboring universities. Though we will not be actively traveling to these countries, we will
strive to have an impact around us by working to help our local diverse community by

Tutoring for the Fall 2026 semester takes place in IES 123 starting September 10th up to December 3rd. Our hours are 5 - 7 P.M. on Monday and 7 - 9 P.M. on Thursday every week. We include tutoring for all math and statistics classes at Loyola.

Anime Club exposes its members to contemporary Japanese animation. By doing so, students will not only be aware of the growing cultural import, but will also see what kinds of societal themes are considered important and what Japanese media wants to convey to its audience. Anime Club will serve as a visual medium, encouraging members to take up Asian Studies and affiliated courses relating to Japanese and Asian-based subject areas. Our overall goal is to expand Loyola students' outlooks through diversity in a very entertaining and educational way. By watching anime with Anime Club, members will be able to learn aspects of Japanese culture so that those engaged in watching can use it if they go to Japan or in their daily lives. Students Defending Democracy is a non-partisan community open to everyone and dedicated to the defense and promotion of liberal democracy, both on campus and throughout the community. Students Defending Democracy aims to defend liberal democracy in America at its 3 roots: intellectual, social, and civic.

Intellectual: Liberal democracy is based upon a specific set of philosophical and moral convictions which trace their lineage back to the enlightenment, where freedom of speech, inquiry, and thought–among other principles such as limited government—are essential to the political mechanism of a fair and just society. These principles upon which our nation is based transcend partisanship; their victory is not a foregone conclusion and therefore requires active promotion. As such, we as university students find ourselves dedicated to opposing academic neglect and censorship in all forms and advocating for a public political discourse that is both responsible and open to all. This means ensuring that political reflection and dialogue are happening at Loyola in a way which advances our society living up to these principles.

Social: We aim to provide a community space for students interested in liberalism and liberal democracy. Loyola’s community stands to benefit from more such spaces. A democratic social fabric is essential to the health of liberal democracy. To achieve our goal of a liberal-democratic society, a society where the people work together for self-rule, the people need a sense of optimism and confidence in all their neighbors. Students with Disabilities Coalition's mission is to improve accessibility on campus, therefore allowing disabled students at Loyola equal access to college life, both academic and social. Our organization strives to educate Loyola students and faculty about disability, anti-ableism, and the importance of accommodation in order to foster a more welcoming and non-discriminatory community. The Students with Disabilities Coalition will also create a safe gathering and community-building space for disabled students to make friends and find valuable support.

College life, whether it be academically or socially, is not designed with disabled students in mind. The Students with Disabilities Coalition seeks to overcome ableism in the university setting and is the first student organization at Loyola made for disabled students, by disabled students. Our organization would give members the opportunity to become involved in accessibility advocacy on campus and provide a safe and supportive space for disabled students to share their experiences.

SWORDs provides a space for students to play games that are not offered normally, such as trading card games, tabletop games, and other niche games that you won't find in the average game cabinet. We focus on games like Magic: the Gathering, Yugioh!, Gloom, Catan, and Pokémon, but have offered to provide spaces to students who are interested in other games as well. We provide a space for games that are often only available in small, niche settings. There is a large demand for groups to play with, both to provide a space to enjoy a hobby and to be social with others, and SWORDs aims to make that official. Trading Card games, tabletop games, and games that aren't always well-known can be a creative outlet for many people, so we are an active club that gives people groups to play with.
We value inclusivity and openness. We want to revolve around the theme of fun through games, stress ease, and activity. Since it is such a sought-after group among many students, allowing this space is sure to provide those values to the members who choose to participate. Our community will strive to be inclusive, active, and helpful. We will allow all kinds of people to take advantage of this club and make it clear that new players are always welcome. Our board is well acquainted with a variety of games, and our goal is to teach, help, and lend materials to new players and people interested. We will stay active, meeting every week and allowing for additional meetings.
Loyola works to expand knowledge through serving people with learning, justice, and faith. SWORDs seeks to support that mission. We want people to have a stress-free environment to give them an outlet so that they may better serve others and themselves in their work outside of this club. Giving a place for stress relief allows people to feel more at ease in their college life.

Grounded in the rich tradition of Chicago improv, we strive to entertain, challenge, and connect, both on campus and beyond. Through professional coaching, high-energy performances, and a commitment to uplifting one another, we aim to grow as artists, build lasting comedic partnerships, and share the joy of improv with every audience.
